Voodoo Histories: The Role of the Conspiracy Theory in Shaping Modern History

Voodoo Histories: The Role of the Conspiracy Theory in Shaping Modern History - David Aaronovitch Voodoo Histories is a fascinating look at conspiracy theories about history and public events, starting with the notorious Protocols of the Elders of Zion and continuing all the way through the present-day "Birther" and "Truther" movements by way of Stalin's show trials, McCarthyism, the deaths of JFK, Marilyn Monroe, and Diana, Princess of Wales, with The Da Vinci Code thrown in for good measure.

I found some sections of Voodoo Histories, notably the first few chapters and probably the ones that contained the most new (to me, at least) information, to be rather dry. However, it definitely picked up, and Aaronovitch's critical look at all these theories, and more importantly, what draws people to them despite wide diversity in education, politics, etc., was on the whole fascinating and enlightening.
